Fire Destroys Vacant Chemical Plant in Woonsocket, RI

Firefighters encountered heavy fire when they responded to the Woonsocket facility about 1 a.m.

An investigation is underway after a fire broke out at an old chemical plant in Woonsocket early Monday morning. 

Air quality was monitored throughout the operation since it was a gas-fed fire, Woonsocket Fire Chief Bob  Cahill told WPRI. 

Power was shut off to the area while crews worked.
